Interviewing the director and 4 parents.

Reflection from parents:The benefit of learning string music is letting kids have an accomplishment and make more friends. The applause makes kids confident. Besides, kids should take a lot of time to practice if they want to play it well. We suggest that kids should be given more time for practice before video-recording.

Because they are nervous in recording and the violin is very hard to be played, when parents see their kids play a complete song in video, they really feel gratified. We should make kids happy to learn, but not compel them. Some parents say they make the violin always un-packed to let kids play it whenever they want to. Some kids can even play out a song with a few minutes of practice after he/she hears a good commercial song.

The administration director of our school ensemble is Ms. Ni. The affairs-chief is Ms. Xie.

Ms. Ni says humbly that the director is like one who does chores for the ensemble. The "chores"are like helping find suitable classrooms, order lunch for students, take the key to open the classrooms, supervise classes, contact parents, handle the reparation of instruments, etc. While the affairs-chief is in charge of collecting money.

The reasons why kids join in the ensemble differ. Some join for their classmates have joined in it, and they want to learn with their classmates. Some join for they are interested in the songs played by CSEDL teachers in propaganda. Some kids had learnt the violin, but they learnt alone. So they joined the ensemble to have friends play music together.

parents support
String ensembles need much support from parents.

Kids need parents' encouragement in learning in ensemble. If kids' friends join in it, kids would be more willing to learn in the ensemble. In the beginning, kids don't thirst for learning. But till they can play a song, they are in love with string music. The ensemble requires parents' cooperation. Many parents have been very familiar with another through the ensemble.

The ensemble gives kids many chances to perform, which bring them courage and confidence. Having classmates learn together has the benefits: there is a higher consensus in classmates' learning, the friendship of classmates can be prompted by in-chorus learning, and competing with classmates makes them learn better. The ensemble has a test in the end of a semester. Kids who pass the test will be promoted to the higher grade. Students are grade-divided in the 2nd year in the ensemble.

Parents think CSEDL did a good job and it will be better and better. Presently many schools are applying for founding their own string ensembles. Dr. Yang has a hope: One day, all students of all Changhua string ensembles play the violin altogether at PM 8:08. Hearing violins send wonderful music everywhere in Changhua County is 1 of Dr. Yang's dreams.
