how CSEDL operates
Dr. Yang explains to parents how CSEDL operates

CSEDL leagued by schools to cooperate

CSEDL has 3 functions:

  • To decide the instrument supply factory.
  • To engage teachers and supervise teaching quality.
  • To arrange the yearly united concerts.

The school-ensembles which join CSEDL let the ensemble's parents occupy the directors and the affairs-chiefs, which are in charge of daily affairs. Every ensemble has the right to decide the formulation of instrument renting contract and finance management.

Besides that, the directors and the affairs-chiefs of school ensembles have to cope with routine work, such as helping schools to find classrooms, booking lunch for students, taking the key to open the classroom, supervising class situation, contacting parents, repairing instruments, etc.

Way of Charge

The way of students paying the expense for CSEDL is that each kid pays CSEDL 1000 NT dollars per month. The 1000 dollars includes 300 for the violin-rent, 700 for the tuition of 4 classes per month. So the tuition of each class is less than 200 dollars. If a student has learnt for 1 year, he does not need to pay the 300 violin-rent from the 2nd year on. Such low expense lets most parents able to afford it.

The affair chief of each school ensemble is in charge of collecting tuition ,which is for teachers. CSEDL and school ensembles clear account once a month. Some of the funds (tuition ) are to be given to CSEDL. Every semester, each school ensemble joined in CSEDL hands in funds for CSEDL.
An ensemble containing :

  • Less than 25 members, hands in 1000 NT dollars.
  • 25-40 members, hands in 1500 NT dollars.
  • 41-60 members, hands in 2000 NT dollars.
  • Over 60 members, hands in 2500 NT dollars.

The rest of the funds can be used as the funds for the school ensembles, which can be the expense of materials in the ensembles' performance.

Instrument Renting
Students own violins by renting
Students own violins by renting

CSEDL strives for lessening the expenses of learning string music. So schools rent instruments from factories with low price. This way makes it easy for students to get instruments and for the repair of instrument.

The 2nd principals'meeting of CSEDL focused on holding the factories exposition and instrument trial. It invited a violin teacher and a cello teacher to play the factories'instruments. Then all the participants decided which instrument factory to be the renter.

The contract of renting violins is signed by the factory and parents. The rent-price-NT 300 dollars, is much cheaper than the market price. After a student renting a violin for 1 year, the violin will be owned by the student, so he needn't rent it from the 2nd year. At the start, a student should hand in the guarantee-money-NT 2000, which won't be refunded. The rate of depreciation is NT 500 every 3 months (1 season). If the tenancy is less than 1 year, the guarantee-money will be deducted according to the times of seasons that the violin is owned by the student; and the violin will be returned to its factory. Besides renting, students can prepare the violins by themselves.
